Hi, I’m Marwan. Welcome to Comfy Dwell — a passion project I’m proud to build alongside my good friend and collaborator, Faruque Alam.

The day job and the real job

By day, I work as a Data Analyst for an auto parts supplier here in Zaragoza. It’s a world of spreadsheets, logistics, and supply chains — as far from quilting patterns and cozy bedrooms as you can imagine. But here’s something I’ve learned working with numbers all day: creativity needs an outlet. A real one.

Interior design is mine. It always has been.

I trained formally at the Deià School of Art and Design in Barcelona, graduating in 2008 with a Técnico Superior de Artes Plásticas y Diseño — Spain’s Higher Technician certificate in Plastic Arts and Design. That training gave me a technical eye for composition, texture, proportion, and the way light moves through a space. I use those skills every day, even if the context now is a quilt layout rather than a client brief. Alongside the blog, I also take on freelance interior design work — usually residential projects where textiles and soft furnishings play a central role.

Why quilts and home textiles?

For me, quilts and textiles are the soul of a room. They are where comfort becomes art. A quilt draped over a sofa or laid across a bed does more for a space than almost any other single design decision — it adds warmth, scale, pattern, and personality all at once.

After a long day staring at data, there is nothing more grounding than losing myself in the geometry of a Log Cabin quilt or tracing the centuries of craft behind a Nakshi Kantha textile. I am not a master seamstress. I don’t claim to be the world’s authority on decor. I’m an enthusiast, a researcher, and a curator — and I think that perspective is actually more useful to most readers than a purist’s take.

About Comfy Dwell

Faruque and I started this site as two friends who believe that a comfortable home is one of life’s greatest joys. While I bring the design perspective and the storytelling behind each pattern and textile, Faruque brings his own energy and vision to the larger shape of what Comfy Dwell is becoming. Together we research the ideas, test the concepts, and write them up in a way that’s clear, practical, and honest.

We also design and develop websites focused on home improvement, so building this site was a natural extension of both our skill sets.

Our promise to you

You may notice some AI-assisted imagery on the site — we use it to help visualize complex design concepts that would otherwise be difficult to photograph. But the perspective behind every article, every pattern choice, and every recommendation is human. We write for the person who wants their home to feel like a warm embrace after a long day. That’s it.
